Creating Lasting Change
Eating healthy, in theory, is a simple task. Finding unbiased, factual information about eating healthy is also a simple task due to the vast outreach of the Internet. Now, while I try and paint this picture of effortless health, I understand that endless options for food make eating healthy challenging. Healthy people do not become healthy overnight and vice verse. I will provide three tips that I use to continue my path of healthy eating.
Creating attainable goal(s) is a great way to start eating healthy. Understanding who you are is important when setting goals because it may affect how successful you are in completing the goal(s). If success for you means immediate results, then creating small goals may be the advantageous way to go about creating change. Completing small goals may seem insignificant by themselves, but completing multiple small goals can produce dramatic change.
The second aspect of healthy eating that I implement is being positive. Living a healthy lifestyle is a constant, continuous effort. There will be peaks, plateaus, and valleys when it comes to one’s journey in health. Staying positive through the difficult times is what will help you prevail in the end. In Barbara Fredrickson’s book, Positivity, she preaches the importance of just that. In the book, she claims that being positive can have a contagious effect on those around said positivity. Furthermore, this positivity can impact someone’s future positivity. Thus, building positive thoughts towards healthy eating habits will help future healthy eating.
Finally, the last tip I have for healthy eating is surrounding yourself with healthy choices. When I grocery shop, I do my best to avoid purchasing unhealthy snacks and treats. Slowly whittling down the unhealthy choices readily available to you in your home can aid in healthy eating changes. You have the power to reduce the unhealthy snacks you purchased at your own rate and that is the beauty of health. You, and only you get to choose how these changes get to be applied. Develop a healthy lifestyle on your own terms and be happy when you reach your goals.
