Stevens Point, Wisc., December, 2017 — Nearly 650 community members participated in the Stevens Point Community Turkey Trot 5K and Food Drive on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday November 23 at Pfiffner Park in Stevens Point. This annual non-competitive and family-friendly event is organized by Portage County Can (PC CAN), Portage County’s health and wellness coalition.
“We were thrilled with the turnout and enthusiasm this year!” said PC CAN President, Annie Wetter, “We loved seeing all the turkey costumes, family dogs and community members of all ages!” Attendance was up nearly 30% from 2016.
“This year we made an extra push to encourage more awareness and donation to local area food pantries,” said Turkey Trot Coordinator, Laura Zelenak, “the work paid off– we filled two huge trucks with donations for the InterFaith Food Pantry! “1,950 pounds of food was donated, a 50% increase from last year. Participants are asked to bring a healthy, non-perishable food item donation in lieu of an event fee.
The Stevens Point Area Turkey Trot is committed to being a free and family-friendly event. Local donations, grants and volunteers make the event possible.
