Cycling Without Age Stevens Point will offer a simple and safe way for independent living, nursing home, and assisted living residents to remain active members of our community, spend time outdoors, share stories, socialize, have new adventures, and experience nature close up from a bicycle.
Cycling Without Age began in Copenhagen Denmark in 2014. Today, Cycling Without Age is spreading happiness and improving the lives of nursing home residents around the world. The program uses trishaws—a tricycle-rickshaw hybrid equipped with electric pedal assist to give rides to one or two seated passengers. Volunteers, called ‘pilots,’ receive training to operate the trishaw and keep the passenger(s) safe.
Now the ADRC, Portage County Health Care Center, Portage County CAN, YMCA, University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and many others are collaborating to launch the first Cycling Without Age program to Central Wisconsin by June 2018. Each trishaw alone costs $6,600 and are custom designed to meet the physical needs of senior passengers. Donations of any amount will help us meet our goal of purchasing 3 trishaws by January 1, 2018. (Shipping takes six months.)
Cycling Without Age Stevens Point is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established through the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin. This unique program complements existing person-centered senior care services and will serve more than 750 seniors and people with differing abilities at 19 facilities in the Stevens Point area the first year.
